Blood Bank for Pets
Blood donations are the need of the hour and while finding it for many human cases is hard enough, it is chaotic when it comes to animals.
Amid stigma and dismal medical infrastructure to support such cases, an initiative by animal lovers in Bangalore with Cessna Lifeline Pet Hospital India will allow canine and feline blood donors to help save these voiceless creatures.
Led by Anurag and Volunteers they hope to collect blood from healthy pets.
Dogs & cats require blood
Hit-and-run cases, tick-fever and several other ailments require blood donations and blood transfusions are the last resort.
If your pet or any cats or dogs you feed are healthy, not trauma victims, they can turn donors.
What you need to know?
The pet should generally weigh over 25 kgs for dogs and 4 kgs for cats
Can also be a street dog that you are familiar with and eligible to donate blood
Small dogs who fall under this weight category but would like to be donors can check with a trusted vet in case of donating to puppies instead of larger dogs
Must be aged between 1-8 years
Pet Protocol
A Complete Blood Count and physical checkup
Screening for infectious and systemic diseases
Regular vaccinations to boost your pet’s immunity which also helps tremendously during blood transfusions
Blood typing to know your pet’s blood type- this is a one time process for some cases
Why should your pet donate?
When we are sick, we have several options to choose from to recover but unfortunately animals don’t.
Even a one time donation can help save lives during times of crisis.
A blood bank for pets and animals is of utmost importance to correct the systematic and human failure that causes suffering to those without a voice.
Remember, when you take a decision to donate, you not only save someone else’s pet but also spread word that animals too need a blood bank.
