Peru Celebrates 203rd Independence Day in Bengaluru
The 203rd Independence Day of Peru was celebrated with great enthusiasm and cultural splendour in Bengaluru recently. Hosted by Mr. Vikram Viswanath, Honorary Consul of Peru in Bengaluru, the event was graced by the presence of distinguished guests from India as well as Peru to mark the occasion, including H.E. Javier Paulinich, Ambassador of Peru to India.
Peru boasts the ancient Caral culture, flourishing around 5000 B.C., while India’s Indus Valley civilization thrived during the same period. This shared ancestry bases the cornerstone of the bilateral relationship and its projection.
Addressing the gathering, Peruvian Ambassador to India Ambassador H.E. Javier Paulinich said, “India and Peru both countries share a strong macroeconomic foundations and resources, as well as the complementarity of our economies. Our countries have collaborated extensively in various sectors, especially in the fields of trade, finances, culture and active exchanges between our peoples, as well as global initiatives spearheaded by India such as the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and, recently, the Big Cat Alliance. Peru and India recently agreed a partnership to introduce the Indian successful real-time payment system in Peru, similar to Unified Payments Interface (UPI).”
Over the last 61 years, Peru and India have witnessed important achievements. Last year, India received the visit of the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru and the Peruvian flagship vessel, the “B.A.P. Union”, in the city of Mumbai. Indo-Peru relations cemented recently with seventh round of bilateral negotiations of a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement.
The evening was a captivating blend of Peruvian culture and cuisine. Renowned Peruvian Chef Ms. Carolina Oshiro, who flew in from Japan, presented a culinary extravaganza, offering guests a delightful taste of Peru. The mesmerizing performance of the Northern Marinera dance by award-winning Peruvian dancers added to the festive atmosphere. The event was a resounding success, fostering stronger bonds between India and Peru and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the South American nation.
