IIG Bangalore offers courses in diamonds, jewellery and gems
For the first time in South India, Gemology courses are being offered for students in Bengaluru with the launch of the International Institute of Gemology on Independence Day.
The institute launched today by Fashion Guru, Mr Prasad Bidappa, will offer courses for students to upskill themselves & increase the job opportunities in the G&J sector.

Laxmi Diamonds, a Bangaluru-based gem & jewellery conglomerate is bringing IIG Mumbai, a premier institute powered by SRDC since 1965, to the IT hub of India.
Mr Chetan Kumar Mehta, CEO of Laxmi Diamonds, said on the occasion that Laxmi Diamonds is spreading its education wing by bringing IIG to Bengaluru.
“IIG Mumbai has set a benchmark for jewellery-related education for over 50 years now. This is a world class education institute we have set up here & increase opportunities for those from South India who need no longer travel to Mumbai. The entire jewellery industry will be benefitted with fresh talent being sourced from here.”
Mr Mehta is an alumnus of IIG Mumbai addressed the launch with his futuristic words.
“Those students studying & passing out from here will be skilled professionals. The courses offered are in line with the centre’s skill development initiative.”
Mr Rahul Desai, MD of IIG India said that the Bengaluru campus is a step towards broadening IIG’s horizons. This institute will maintain the same international standards as set at Mumbai. More than one lakh students have passed out of IIG Mumbai.
The Bengaluru centre has 4 classrooms with state-of-the-art equipment that will give students a real sense of learning from day one.
Initially, small batches of four courses in gemology, diamonds & jewellery will be taught here.

MASTERS IN DIAMONDS (MID)
MASTERS IN JEWELLERY DESIGN (MIJD)

Bengaluru has been a robust designer jewellery manufacturing centre for decades.
“The industry will greatly benefit as it can tap local talent passing out of IIG Bengaluru”, said Mr Prasad Bidappa after inaugurating the campus in Richmond Town.
